i'm new in raid configurations..

i have an existing 80gb SATA drive. it is full of data and programs. if i buy a second identical drive to create a RAID 0 array (i think it is called stripping), will i have to format my old drive ? in other words will i loose my data or will it be devied up between the drives?
 
you'll lose all your data. BTW, why do you want to RAID?

Lame excuse there. You'll actually see little to no increase in the practical speed (other than in synthetic benchmarks), and RAID 0 actually halves the MTBF of a drive (when one of the drives in RAID 0 goes bad or dead, the ENTIRE array becomes unusable, making data recovery impossible).
