I'm setting up a computer with mostly parts I have laying around, including XP, 512mb of ram and an Athlon 2400+. The problem is, I don't really have a good hard drive to put in it. I do have a s**tload of old, identical 2gb drives that I'm guessing are 5400 RPM.

I don't know much about raid, other than it allows you to run multiple hard drives in parallel to speed them up, right? Well, if I put 4 of these drives into raid, would they be faster than a newer 7200 RPM drive? 2gb will be plenty of space...this computer will be on a network and won't have much installed.

Will a cheap card like this work for what I want to do?

With drives of that vintage, you could have a dozen of them in RAID-0 and they would still get outperformed by a current 7200RPM drive. 5400RPM drives of that era have small buffers, high rotational latency, and low density (and therefore low transfer rates). Striping is not going to make those disks fast.
