Hi,

I currently have a 200 gigabyte Seagate Barracuda. I was just looking over some of the information about RAID and such. I don't really do anything that important on my computer besides school work and gaming. Would it be beneficial for me (performance and data security wise) to set up some sort of RAID system and if so how do I get started? BTW: I have a Gigabyte 8I915P Duo Pro motherboard with 4 SATA connectors.

Thanks!

It would depend on what you do. But you'd need more than 1 harddrive to run raid.

Your mobo supports Intel Matrix Storage technology (RAID 0, 1), so as defacto indicated you could purchase a second 200 GB Seagate drive and use the mobo's onboard RAID technology. Take a look at the Intel website ... with the 2 dirves and the mobo chipset's matrix technology you could set up a single RAID 0 Array, or a single RAID 1, or both a RAID 0 and a RAID 1 Array. If your still a bit confused about the various RAID configurations, take a look a the storagereview web ... the have a a great reference section that has a detailed explanation of RAID.

you might see a slight performance boost out of mirrored hard drives. but with just gaming and school work, you might not really get anything worth the investment.

just my $.02
