I have two empty 80gb maxtor drives in a lvl 0 array. I am using a Promise Fastrack S150 TX2Plus card. I do install the drivers when I attempt to install Windows XP Professional. When I have only the array connected with no additional drives, I have this problem. When I get to the part of the install when you can manage partitions and select one to install to, there appear to be two "drives". The first option is "unknown disk [next line, indented] there is no disk in this drive". I cannot select this option. The second disk is my array, and it looks normal. I create a partition and select it for install, but I get an error along the lines of "Setup needs to copy files to UNKNOWN DISK, but there is no valid partition. create a partition on the disk".
If I have another drive on the motherboard, windows installs and everything seems normal, but the un-selectable "unknown disk" still appears on that screen.
This card is fresh from an RMA. I never did get an independant windows install on the array, even when the card was new. On a sidenote, I would not reccomend Promise. I have to RMA every single time the power goes out and/or I attempt to flash the bios. My first RMA with them was the single worst experience I have ever had with any company.
Thanks.
