ok, i'm in the process of building a new file server and am thinking of using a 3ware 8506-8 SATA RAID card in it, my question is will it work in a standard 32bit 33MHz PCI slot?

All PCI 64bit/66mhz including pci-X stuff is back compatible with normal slots.
PCI Express is not back compatible.
