Hey guys... a buddy of mine told me that an external raid controller is better than the onboard types.

How is this possible?

What good brands/models are recommended?

I am building my new system on sunday and will be using two WD 7200rpm SATA. I havent decided if I want to use Raid0 or Raid1.

He probably means a raid card, instead of a chip on the mobo.

Most onboard rely on the processor to handle the raid calculations, so decreased performance compared to a card based with full hardware support.
