hey guys this is my first time trying to put 4 HDD's together.

i've only tested raid 0 but i want to move onto raid 5 or 0+1

i'm just using it as a storage so i want to try using a raid card instead of buying a nas.

for raid 5 i have 3 hdd's and 1 should be able to keep up with the mirror of the 3 that are "raided" together right?''

what card do you guys suggeset ~150 or so. highpoint ?
 
ebay, perc 5i card, $50.. cut pins 5,6 for compatibility, update to newest lsi, profit. (google perc 5i to lsi megaraid bios) for the full info.

or you can grab a highpoint if you want to take the road less 'technically' challenged.
 
I've been pretty pleased with my ibm 5015 (aka lsi 9260-8i). big improvement from the perc5 I used before.
