Got into work today and our AD server was not authenticating people correctly. When trying to check it out, it was slow as shit.
Did a reboot and noticed that the Raid 1 we have said Degraded, and one of the drives was Unavailable.
Everything came up fine, but I need help handling this RAID issue since I've never dealt with it before.
Step 1 should be backing shit up. This raid has the OS on it, and it's our AD server, so I really don't want to lose this shit. What's some good software to make an image of this disk? Would it be bad to do the backup while the raid is in a degraded state?
Step 2 I'm assuming would be identifying the drive. I hope i can do this by just unplugging shit and seeing what happens. Is that a bad idea?
Step 3 I'm assuming would be adding a new drive in the bad one's place. I don't think I have a spare around here that's the same size. Will it accept a larger drive?
Step 4 I'm assuming is ????
Step 5 is clearly profit.
Thanks for any help you can offer this RAID nooblet.
