RAID 1 + Highpoint + A7v = slow

Hi guys,

I am running win2K3 on a box with an Athlon 700. with 512MB RAM. I have two RAID-1 arrays hanging off a Highpoint 2 channel IDE controller. Moving data from one array to the other is VERY slow. Moving data to either array from the network, is very slow. Verifying either array takes ~4-5 hours. It seems to me that this is EXTREMLY slow.

Any ideas?

I have tried:
-install new RAID management software
-install new 4-in-1 driver

but neither worked. A reinstall is not possible. I cannot upgrade the RAID card firmware either, since the PC does not have a floppy or CD drive.

any suggestions?
 
Pretty sure it is the Rocket RAID 100 . The drives are two 200GB WD's and two 160GB Seagates. The WD's are master on both channels, the Seagates are slaves. The drive jumpers are set correctly too.
 
Simply said, the rocket raid is not a "real" hardware raid adapter. It uses your processors power to maintain the raid and use disk operations to a certain degree.

We had a similar setup in our company and bought a real hardware raid adapter and this all went away.
Especially true with a rather weak processor like the 700 you got there.
