*RAGE* why can't it just work

UGH I'm having a lot of trouble making my HT and computer sound system play nice together.

primarily im having a huge amount of trouble getting audio from my DVD player in either DD5.1 and DTS to sound good with the same settings on the reciever as my computer

i have a Sony Reciever Model STR DE-995
its a pretty good reciever even though its sony. ive been playing with 5.1 sound as ive always used 4.1 in the past. adding the center channel drops the volume of the rest of the channels by ~10-15 volume points (not gonna call them dB cuz their not) when im watching TV the reciver is usually around 15, on the computer usualy 20 and on dvds WITHOUT center channel also about 20. but as soon as ive added the center channel to the mix i have to crank the volume to 40-50. which when accidentally swapped to the computer or TV

BLAST ME IN THE FACE!

its incredibly annoying. why cant any of these sources actually output the same freaking level. why when i turn on the center channel does everything get monumentally quieter.

so frustrated. center channels suck. sony sucks, tv sucks, onboard soundcards suck,


once i win the lottery im so getting presonus preamps and bryston monoblocks for freaking everything.
