For those of you with BIX or other radiators, how do the plastic fittings hold up after usage? Do the fittings ever leak? Do I need to put on some sort of adhesive or sealant?

I tried using just teflon tape, and did have a leak, though I may not have used enough. So I just used some plumber's sealant and its working perfectly. I wouldn't worry about breaking the plastic barb or anything, they seem to work just fine.

LOL! i had a maze4 GPU block with the plastic fittings, same diferent pretty much, they held up awesome. i did two layers of Teflon tape and had no issues.
 
My current file server (the first WC rig I built) is using a DD 2x120 rad with crappy FrozenCPU plastic fittings. I used plumber tape on the fittings' radiator side before install. They are using generic auto-parts store worm clamps on the hose end.

That loop has been running dry with no problems (since original fill, bleed, & test) for over a year now.

Shouldn't be a problem if done right.
 
Been using plastic fittings for near enough 7 years now. Never had a leak that was fault of fittings. All down to user installation.

5 to 6 wraps of PTFE tape in the opposing direction to the threads, tightened to finger tightness (NOT spanner tightness).

Jubilee (worm drive) hose clamp on the hose end. Done.
 
One caution! DD has been quietly converting over to nothing but G 1/4 (BSPP) threads for a while now. If you get a 1/4 BSPP rad those plastic NPT fittings won't work well.
 
My experience with plastic barbs has also been great. IMO it's one less instance of introducing dis-similar metals into the loop.

You know your sheezy when it comes to WC, so here is a question..

Is there any way to get the screw-on compression fittings on a radiator. All I can find is barbs with clamps.
 
I offer the nylon or brass with the rads I sell. I dont recall the last time I sold nylon babrs with a rad. I have used them and never had a problem, though.

Go here and scroll to the bottom of the page. The compression fittings will fit BSPP or NPT though you might need to add some pipe tape for a good seal.
