Radeon driver errors, new computer rebooting

Hey All,

I just built my first PC. I downloaded the newest driver for my Radeon 9800. Several times the computer rebooted with the message "serious error caused by radeon display driver". I deleted and uninstaleld the driver, since then I've had no mroe errors. I'm using Windows XP withs ervice pack 1a. Can anyone tell me how I can get a Radeon driver to work? Thanks...
 
Go into "Add or Remove Programs" and choose the "ATI - Software Uninstall Utility" and click on Change/Remove to make sure that the ATI drivers actually have been removed, restart when prompted to do so.

After that you should be able to just install the Catalyst Drivers. If you still have trouble try Driver Cleaner

Thank you very much. I've done that.

I used the 4.8's, and the original catalyst drivers that came with my card. The 4.8's are completely unstable with the system rebooting every few minutes. The original drivers afre a little better, I don't reboot if I'm browing the internet (so far), but whenever I play a game the system crashes and reboots. Doom doesn't even get to the menu screen.

Hopefully it gets better soon, or maybe my 6800 Gt will make everything better.
 
yes I did.

Nothings working. I've downloaded the hyperion 4 in 1 drivers, they didn't do anything. I downloaded all of my windows updates, nothing. I've tried a variety of drivers, no good.

I'm running an Athlon 64 3800, Asus MB with socket 939 Motherboard, 1024 MB of Crucial Ballistix RAM, Radeon 9800, Windows XP with service pack 1A (plus all critical updates).

If anyone has any idea how to fix this please let me know. At this point, I can't even get past the loading screen in Doom and Battlefield Vietnam reboots my pc immediately as I spawn.
 
Now the computer keeps rebooting, and at one point my graphics looked horrible (Zoomed in, colors all messed up).
 
Try setting the AGP speed to 4x in the BIOS - not a great fix but it may work, theres also the fastwrite setting in the BIOS which you can try and disable although i didnt have to

I tried just lowering the AGP to 4x with my radeon 9700 and my computer has stopped restarting randomly, although sometimes DooM 3 will crash to desktop but i think thats because i have my 9700 o/c'ed

I have an Asus A8V with 3500+ and dual corsair ram (which passed the memtest86 ram testing) and a Radeon 9700 np -> Pro
