How much better is the ATI 9800 pro 256mb versus the 9800 pro 128 mb version? The price difference is $50 and DDR vs DDR2. If anyone has a link to performance comparison, that would be greatly appreciated.

The 9800 should work fine on a ASUS K8N-E Deluxe s754. I know the chipset is NVIDIA, but I would rather stay with ATI becasue the cards are smaller. Will be in HTPC.

thanks,
Zack

the 128 meg is probably 256bit in which case its about double the speed of the 256meg version..MAKE SURE TO GET THE 256 BIT 9800pro either 128meg or 256meg

for awhile now companys have been making a 9800pro 128bit 256meg card that sucks ass..

i have a 9800pro 128meg thats 256bit and it plays all of todays games with high res and good frames

Well considering they are both 256bit and both using DDR..the only speed increase is when you are playing games with large textures..it uses your physical ram alot less..for normal games and benchmarking tho..the 128 MIGHT be a little bit faster

ATI lists the 256 MB version as using DDR2 memory. I not sure, if that would cause a performance boost.

I'd save the money. Either spend more to get a generation ahead or save money to spend later. Don't go in the middle. I doub't you'll be running the 9800 Pro at a high enough resolution smoothly to utilize the extra RAM.

with a 9800 you dont really need the 256 because the card cant process fast enough to actually take advantage of it.
