alright, i know that my card is old and all, but i am still running my sapphire radeon 9500 np (red pcb l-shaped memory)

when i first got the card i tried to softmod to 9700 and i got that grid effect in every game i tried. today i was bored and messing around and choose the 9800 driver from the omega softmod list a did the CS:S video stress test before and after the soft mod. before i got about 13.4 FPS average, with the softmod i got 32.3 FPS so it obviously made a difference and i did not see any artifacts in the game.

later i tried playing halo and it was artifact city.

why would halo have the checker board and artifacts and stuff, but CS:S does not?

here are 2 screen shots of the games running, cs:s looks good, halo not so good.

I also have an original ATI 9500NP still in my computer (Red/L shaped PCB) tried to softmod originally w/ no luck-- checkboarding. Still to this day, I cannot.

Anyway, you will see varied results of artifacting in different games, simply because of the difference in technology/rendering engine. Doom 3/Halo would be good examples most likely of artifacting-- because of the rendering engines used. It looks as though the source engine has less visible artifacting though.

Thanks,
Rick
