Pretty sure this is a vid card issue, been out of the computer game for a while and shit changes so fast its hard to keep up, used to know everything back in the windows95 days, now i can hardly turn the damn things on, haha!

anyway, i got a monitor on a dvi cable and a lcd tv on the hdmi port of this card, actually the hdmi plugs into my audio receiver and then my tv from there. if i have the receiver on for any reason, even if not routing pc input to the tv say for example using the ps4 or bluray player instead the audio will not work in my computer room, the hdmi takes default even if the speakers are on in the computer room, connected via standard audio headphone jack plug. If the receiver is off they work, if receiver is on they dont.

Maybe a separate issue but also the damn video input flickers sometimes and the tv goes dark for a few seconds and loses audio before it comes back and if i have the tv on and the computer monitor off and then turn the monitor on it will be dark with no video displayed until i go to the settings using the tv screen and change it from duplicate display to extend and then back to duplicate. or the same if the computer monitor is on first, then the tv is blank until i complete this process.

back in the day using these settings with other vid cards they would both work no matter what was on first and i didnt have to do this goofy settings dance, course there was no HDMI plug on the vid card back then, but even with vga and dvi it worked. WTF am i missing? Why wont this FRICKING FRACKING POS just work correctly all the time? getting on my damn nerves for sure. I swear it used to work more consistently before I went on vacation for a few months and powered it off. Is there a bios setting that would affect this that perhaps got reset to default over the long no power state?

thanks for any help

So the occasional brief black screen without audio is the HDMI connection dropping out, not uncommon for certain configurations or if the cable isn't quite up to spec. It messes with the HDCP handshake which is why it can take a power cycle to get it back up and running.

There isn't much you can do about the audio switching, once the receiver is powered on the OS will detect it as an active end point for the digital handshake. If the HDMI audio out is set as your standard default audio output it's going to make use of it the second it's available. You would be better served setting the 3.5mm out as the preferred default output in the sound setting then changing over to HDMI when you intend to use the receiver.

Thanks for the info. the flicker problem resolves itself after about 5 seconds but highly annoying. i swear they used to both work at the same time before, maybe was back before the hdmi port was utilized. used to drive me nuts both playing sound the same time, just a hair out of sync with each other too, lol. I do use the PC through the receiver to my tv for my main tv source, no cable or dish, so i guess ill leave it as is, just kind of annoying when i wanna use the pc in the pc room to watch a video or something and the sounds in the other room or not at all if receiver is on a different setting. Maybe i dont remember correctly but I thought it worked differently/better before the extended power off period. i certainly dont remember the flickering, same cables, nothings lose or changed in that regard, i checked the connections first. If the pc monitor is on first the tv will be black but the sound will play from the receiver speakers, very odd.

also i notice some chop when playing 1080P vid at 60frames per second through windows media player, perhaps a separate issue, perhaps not, vid source is a micro sd card transferred to the pc HD, its a SSD, vid plays fine on my phone and fine on the pc after uploaded to facebook but the raw vid feed stutters on the pc mp4 format from a DJI drone, maybe drivers or codec is outdated. 24 fps seems normal.

oddly enough this problem resolved itself some how, not sure what caused it, now both screens are working fine, sound defaults to hdmi if its on but both screens work simultaneously again now.
