I have a PC-based firewall, two desktops, and a "server" for my home office (of sorts).
To possibly increase physical security (albeit marginally), space usage and aesthetics, I have considered converting them into a rack setup.
My question is, how difficult would it be to build a relatively quiet rack setup that will properly cool the systems? Only one of the systems will really be a power-hungry monster, the rest use on-board graphics or minimal graphics, and the server system has a few hard drives in it.
I've thought about building a sound-proofed rack that would probably work pretty well, but I feel it would be too big and ungainly. I can think of more elegant solutions, but they leave the system a lot more open-air and I'm concerned that noise would again be a significant factor.
Has anyone done this at home with reasonable success? Does anyone know of nice looking rackmount cases that use only 120MM fans, and do not include 60's or 80's for primary air circulation?
