IF r520 significantly beats 7800gtx in benchies (real world gaming, not 3dmark!)
then buy r520
ELSE buy (probably) cheaper 7800GTX

If r520 is paper launched only
then buy 7800GTX.

That's my purchasing criteria for next week sorted!

Well we will wait and see what the X1800XT can do..... It might just be as good as a 7800GTX. But the real test is 2x7800GTX SLI VS 2xX1800XT in Crossfire.

Thats the real test ;)

IMO the real test is to see whether or not ati can shift them...nvidia has made a huge impact this time around with its cards, lets just hope ati can do the same...

The real world product still has yet to be used in a real world eveyday system. Even if the r520 is fast it may have problems ... who knows. It took them way too long to put the card out so i'm thinking it may not be that good (as refined as previous ATI cards). Kind of like the nVIDA 5800 leaf blower days. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

That is true, but i do not think that ATI is dumb, i bet that r520 was garbage copared to 7800gtx, so they took it and revised it so it will perform the same or better tahn 7800gtx, the reason is that they know that they need r520 to be te best to stay in competition.

The R520 has been in design for quite some time. I hghly doubt that since Nvidia launched their cards that ATI went back to the drawing board. Remember the big think is that ATI has made the jump to a 90m processiong. Nvidia has yet to tackle that hurdle. With ATI having that process done already they have way more headroom than nvidia can hope for with their 7800's.

But well all find out officially wednesday. Me I beleive the specs that are being leaked out now. But its not really frame rate to frame what anymore. ITs more what you can do with all the bells and whistle enabled. I think ATI has a few more whistles to offer us right now. ;)

thats about where I am.

I'm worried about the X1800XL being too expensive.. I've budgeted myself $350.. $400 at most.. I can get a 7800GT for $350 no problem, it'll take a while for the similarily performing XL to reach that price-point. That will probably be the only reason I wont go ATi this round.

What if it really is 60%~80% faster in F.E.A.R. but the x1800 XT launches 2 weeks~3weeks after the official launch?

Then it'll all be too much & i'll spontaneously combust :D

Damn only 3 hours to go...!

So when exactly will the reviews start coming in ? It's already OCT 5th.
In Asia, it's like 12pm on OCT 5th.

Can you link me to this post ?

^^^^^^^^ Beat Me To It

I am thinking this is just a place holder until 9 AM EST. So that he can place it there when the NDA expires.

Stop stating the obvious >< omg can't wait....He must enjoy teasing us!!!

Here's my mini take on the [H] review without even ever having read it:

the x1800 series is faster in every benchmark except doom 3 when compared to the 7800GTX. Sometimes 5-10 FPS, in HL2 it's even 20 FPS faster. Also it's standard ATI red.

2D looks good, as does 3D. No big driver issues appeared. Crossfire couldn't be tested.

The cards are not available at this point, Kyle will get upset about this fact, bitches a little about it and then states that the X1800 series is a solid piece of hardware and a gamers dream if it would be available.

Well, i've decided to get a 7800gtx. Primarily because i've preordered F.E.A.R & Quake 4 and want the card in & ready to go by then. The X1800xt isn't available here in the uk until 11th Nov (according to overclockers.co.uk), so sorry ATI, but too late for me.

Can't complain about the price saving either!

Well, i've ordered the card! 256MB XFX PCI-E *Extreme Edition* GF7800GTX Gamers Edition *Extreme High Speed Overclock 490/1300*. Should be here tomorrow or monday!!!
