Hey all. I am looking at cooling an Intel QX9650. I currently have no WC in my system at all, but I want to unlock a bit of the potential of this processor. I have no plans to go past 4Ghz with this proc, but I still want it to be relatively cool and I am not getting that with air. Currently, my thoughts are either a PA120.1 inside the case or a PA120.2 outside the case. I'd like it to be as clean as possible but I don't have room for a larger rad inside. Here is what my current shopping list looks like:

Thermochill PA120.1 or PA120.2 (depending on cooling ability)
1 or 2 Scythe S-Flex SFF21F fans

D-Tek Fuzion CPU block (w/ nozzle kit)

Some of my more important questions are:

  1. Will that pump accomplish what I need? If not, what else would I look for?
  2. What size barbs and tubing should I be using for this? I have thought 1/2" barbs with 7/16" tubing.
  3. What kind of fittings would be best? Are compression fittings good?
  4. I have an EVGA 780i board. Is it worth the extra $12 for the D-Tek LGA 775 mounting kit?
  5. What is the best configuration? Pulling or pushing the air with the radiator?

Well, to give you an idea, i can get my rig to 4.7ghz... not really sure if I would run it at that speed/voltage all the time... but it can be done. I would say you would need a dual 120.
 
1. the pump is rated as one of the best with the 655 it will be more than enough especially with a top like that.

2. depends how much room you've got in your case, go 1/2 inch if you've got a big case, if you've got a smaller one then get 3/8 but make sure its the 5/8 OD not the 1/2 OD. you can do the whole 7/16 thing if you want its just a pain to get the tubing on blocks and pumps lol.

3. the regular fittings that come on the blocks are fine but if you wanna be [H] then get high flow ones, compression fittings are also good yes i would probably get them over anything else just because i have a thing for them lol.

4. depends, some people dont mind the push pins its a love or hate thing, but you're better off just installing it properly with a backplate for better contact / temps.

5.i either do push or push and pull together, i havent had good results with just pulling but thats just my experience.

i quite like the EK supreme block at the moment id either get that or the fuzion theyre about the same but some people rate the EK one more, a 120.1 thermochill will be fine just for the cpu, if you're planning on adding other blocks to the loop you're better off getting the 120.2 to save having to add / buy another rad in future.

all in all thats a nice kit if you want absolute lowest temps for water, me personally im happy with swiftech / black ice rads i couldnt justify spending that much on thermochill rads but if you've got the cash then fair play:p
