Hi all. I have done a comparison of all the monitors and decided I want a QWXGA in a 23" size.

The choices are Acer, Dell and Samsung right now. I am waiting for the 2010 models, and could very well get one when the next models come out.

I figure it this way: Every IPS panel and PVA has limitations so I might as well get the most screenspace I can and not worry about the rest.

Unfortunately the 2009 models fall short and so I will see if the next years models hold up. IPS High resolution are found at the 30" size range but that is way too big for me. QWXGA seem to be coming in at 23" + 27". Then you have the higher resolution ones at the 30" size range.

I personally never liked Acer monitors since it was always lower grade Taiwanese so of the QWXGA monitors the Samsung is the best of the lot I believe at this time. Price on that one as of today would be $199.99.

If you're referring to the 2343BWX I used to have that monitor and liked it a lot. Got kind of sick of the short vertical height, even though it's not many pixels less than 1200, the monitor is very short physically.

Great resolution though, I thought the colors were good too but I'm not a panel snob, I'm sure others would tell you that all TN panels are a waste of time.

Sorry for saying it, but I really doubt next years panels will be any better than this years. Your best bet is to look backwards and get a NEC 2490WUXi anything else will have some real draw backs.

I kinda goes like this Samsung makes S-PVA panels that have good uniformity and black levels, but suffer from output lag so they are shunned by gamers. S-PVA is good for movies/pictures/video, but not for gaming. Then you have S/e IPS panels with a wide range of QC issues. Pink/green tint, white glow, BLB etcetra. Good for gaming, but bad for movies and the like.

The bottom line is that everybody comes to this forum looking for the perfect do it all monitor and ends up sacrificing at least one aspect of what they really want or waiting for something that may not be here for years to come.

Thanks for all the replies. I am a non gamer, but use the computer for everything including movies, videos, even financial with quick access times needed and lots of screenspace.

I thought the Samsung would meet my needs, but I will see what the new models have in store.

Between IPS and PVA it seems like as a non gamer based on what you are saying, PVA would fit my needs better. I am not going to shell out 1,000 on a 24" monitor with 1920 resolution.

With that being said, QWXGA seems to be a good middle ground and I really like the resolution. The Dell QWXGA was never on my consideration list and I am also against Acer as well. Samsung is the best of the lot of QWXGA at this time and one person said they had it and liked it.

Will see who else will have QWXGA in the future or other resolutions higher.

2,048 x 1,152 resolution really isn't all that good. Kind of an oddball resolution that's a bit too wide and not all that tall.

I recently got a first hand look at an NEC 2490WUXI touchscreen monitor, and it looked HUGE in person! I dunno why but my NEC 23 inch monitor never struck me as that huge although it's physical dimensions are nearly identical in width and it's only about an inch shorter. Hmm. Does height matter that much to our visual perception?

It is an absolutely stunning screen by the way and definitely droolworthy.
If only it didn't cost the same as a 30" monitor, it would probably really tempt me to buy for Eyefinity. =)
I think I'll wait to see what the price is like on the new NEC PAXX11 line that's about to come out.

PS I wonder how the turned the 2490wuxi into a touchscreen though?

When the next generation panels come out I'll take a look at the monitor comparisons. Not at all impressed with any of the current ones.

XL2370 Samsung showcased a good LED TN panel but its overpriced for what you get. Come 2010 hopefully we see something really nice.

All the panel models and data is useless right now since what I want doesn't exist. Every year that goes by the factories improve to the next generation so we shall see what turns up from all the vendors.

In Australia you can buy the touchscreen version for AU$2,365.

You will never get what you want because your set of criteria is unsuited to reality. I've tried to explain to you a few points, but you don't seem to listen. Your recent posts that I've seen have all been intransigent, self-interested rants which can't be solved no matter how many viewpoints other people offer.

I do and will get precisely what I want. Right now the transistion is being made from CCFL to LED, and panel technologies are getting cheaper and better.

There is no appropriate advice other than to stick it out with my CRT and upgrade when the technology I like is out and it will be out. As to how long, I can't say. 2009 is a bust.

Kodak and LG are joining forces for OLED so OLED isn't far away. Sony will have a 21" OLED TV For 2010, which will be its top of the line and so it will be expensive.

The LG 15" OLED is out in Korea right now and LED LCD is making its way through the model lines.

Todays 23" panels like PVA and IPS are overpriced and underdeliver and TN with LED is close but no cigar as well. New technologies and patents emerge all the time and the most viable contender I see right now is going to be a 23" OLED monitor down the road a little while unless a LED LCD technology or something else comes out that I can't predict right now.
