As far as 3.5" drives go, I'd say it's a tossup between certain Barracuda IVs and SpinPoint P80s.
The MP0402H has decent read/write performance, but frankly, the access times are noticeably slower. That's the inherent limitations of 5400 RPM drives, unfortunately. what kind of performance in the real world do you find with the Samsung MP0402H compared to 3.5" you've worked with? my curreny hard disk is a deathstar 75GB so i have no idea what kind of performance current drives have
have you ever tried suspension?

I haven't dealt with suspension myself, so my comments didn't reflect the drives' acoustics while under suspension.
