ok i wana build a quiet sg01! its gona have the evga matx board and dual 6600gts....what do u recommend to me to make this thing dead silent. i have some 80mm cooler master fans i could use...there Noise: 24.4dBA...Air Flow: 28.894 CFM...Bearing Type: Sleeve
 
Why dual 6600GT's...not worth it. It would be better to get a single 7600GT than 2 6600GT's. Not mention that dual 6600GTs' will make more noise than a single card.
 
Yeah, I would agree, the dual 6600gt's are pointless if you don't already have them. I'd reccomend 1 x 7600gt, or 2 x 7600gt if you can afford it. Hell you could even get a 7600gt and a Zalman vf-900 or something. If you're using the SG01 I'd really suggest you find out if the Artic Silencer rev3 will fit the 7600gt so you'll be able to exhaust your hot air out of the back of the case.

As for fans, I really like those Scythe Fans. I am getting 3 x 80mm in my Sg01, 33cfm @ 27DBA. There are quieter ones.

dual 6600gt even on the same card would only work on SLI boards....i did the research already
 
...cuz he bought into the SLI gimmick. Only worth it if you have 2 high end cards.
 
Yeah IMO it's only worth it to SLI 7900's. 7800's if you bought prior to the G71.
 
i already have a 6600gt and can get another for 80bucks...so thats what im gona do...and i can swap my current board for the evga matx sli bboard...i just need away to keep them quiet....
 
You'd get much better performance if you sold your 6600gt for $80, then bought a Tforce for $65 and a eVGA 7600gt for $165. If you have the cash you could get the DFI rs482, and overclock your proc. With the 7600gt you get HDR Capability, Cooler Temps, 90nm Mask, and one of the best warranty's in the buisness. The eVGA isn't that great of an Oc'er if I remember correctly, the Tforce/rs482's are both great oc'ers. Also, the 7600gt will quieter and perform better than the 2 x 600gt's. It's just smarter buying.

eVGA mATX SLI - $120
6600gt - $80
= $200

Biostar Tforce - $65
eVGA 7600gt - $165
= $230

Plus if you buy 2 aftermarket coolers for the 6600gt's that's another say $60 if you get vf700's or $90 if you get the vf900's. If I were you I would get the 7600gt/DFI rs482.
 
seriously, don't waste you money on SLi...eventhough Blue is wrong about the price...it is still more worthwild to go with a better Video Card and avoid SLi.

??, If you're talking about the price of the eVGA Board, I pulled it out of my ass. I know they're anywhere from $150 - $110

ok so here is what i was going to do...sell my abit an8 board to a friend for 100 and buy the evga sli board...then i was going to buy a 6600gt off here for about 80 bucks. so total to upgrade would b 80 bucks.

but here is what i am being told to do...sell my abit an8 for 100 and sell my 6600gt for 80-100 then buy a tforce board and a 7600gt...

sooo the 2nd option will cost me more....so i guess it comes down to is a 7600gt better than dual 6600gts?

the question was about QUIET SG01, not about 6600 in SLI.

so, let's see. quiet fans - I recommend low-speed Panaflo 80x25 fans - with fluid bearings, they are possibly the quietest fans, no matter what the dBa ratings say. 24dba panaflo will always appear more quiet than any and all 24dba sleeve-bearing or ball-bearing fan.

secondly - sound-deadening material, like dynamat or similar - you will have to do something with the holes in the cover of SG01 to decrease ambient noise - in which case, your case temperatures will go up, and you better be ready for that.

ok good with the fans...now about the video...should i pay 80 bucks to upgrade my video to duel 6600gt's or sell my 6600gt and get a 7600gt?
 
i'm with blue, the feature set of the 7600GT is worth it. the 6600GT was a good card like a year and a half ago but since there is new technology out, its better to go for it since your upgrading now. also, if you really want to go sli you always have that option open when you have the 7600GT and if you purchase the evga 7600GT you can always step up in the next two and a half months to a 7900 series card.
 
Yup, get the 7600GT or better if you got the dough, it's better than getting another dated card. IMO, SLI is only worth it if you do it early in a card's life. Even now...the 7800GTX are still high in price, and most people who wanted to get another one to SLI with their old GTX are out of luck, the same can be said for 7800GT's.
 
I know the Panaflos are good for fans, but I am going to try my luck with a pair of SilenX 80mm fans. From my understanding, the stock Silverstone fans are noisy, so they are the first to get replaced.

Also, covering the holes with dynamat will cut down on noise, but at the cost of internal temps. In the summer time, this will become a real issue, especially if you plan on going with a dual GPU SLI setup. What CPU heatsink and PowerSupply are you using?

Not sure about the PSU, but going with a slower RPM cooler would reduce case noise. What size fan(s) does your PSU have?

um it has a 80mm on the back...2 60mm on the bottom and a 80 on the front..and has adjustable speed high,med,low
 
Sorry for the thread hijack, but I originally had the stock AMD fan on my X2 4400 within my SG01. It kept the CPU cool (45 degrees under max load), but was like having a vacuum cleaner in my office such was its incredible noise level.

I swapped in the Silverstone CPU cooler and it's a lot quieter - but also a lot hotter: 58 degrees under load.

So will the Zalman 7700 offer the best of both worlds?

I built my SG01-B Evo to be as silent as possible and I am pretty satisfied with the results.(less than 40db idle)

I used (2) Nexus 80mm 17db fans, an 80mm Coolermaster 21db fan and the Silverstone Cross Flow fan all blowing out / exhaust. (All are controlled bythe Zalman Fan Controller). The 120mm Thermaltake Blue Orb II also does a great job of cooling my X2 4800+ silently, which is controlled via speedfan.

The 7900GTX coolers are silent at idle as is the fan in the Enermax Liberty 620W PSU

The 6600GT, 7800GT, 7600GT's are fairly loud with the stock coolers - I would recommend choosing a single higher end card and using an aftermarket cooler like the Arctic Cooling Silencer or Zalman VF900.

hey dworley, been meaning to ask you. what kinda screws are those you used for your fans? and where did you get them? i dont like how regular fans screw fit just right into the holes. one time when i tried to screw in the fan the screw just went right through the hole.

I asked him the same question in a PM. They are rubber fan screws(holders) they pull through the hole and work very well. Performance-PCS has them but I know the other stores do too. I am unsure where dworley got them.

They are silicone composite fan mounts that came with my SilenX Fans. I have seen these available from numerous on-line sites like
