Anyone know of a good and quiet 450W+ PSU.. or maybe even of a really great case that has a quiet PSU?

Seasonics have a reputation of being high-quality, low-noise power supplies. I've been very happy with my 600-watt S12. I'm using it for two 7800GTXs in SLI, and never a problem.

Bought a S12-500 for my Opteron system based on recommendations here and at SPCR, excellent unit and I put a S12-380 in the wife's machine as well. Thumbs up from me!

I agre with the suggestions made here and I'm ordering a S12-500 myself. I read a french website who tested all 26 powersupplies and Seasonic come on top about the least noise of all beside fanless powersupplies.

It has also a very efficient design (normally +80% efficiency) and a higher efficient powersupply often translate in less heat. And that will allow the fans to spin slower and make less noice.

If looks don't matter go with the Seasonic

Full disclosure: I had a sesonic s12-500 and it blew...I think this is rare though.
I now have an Ultra X-finity which is low noise and looks pretty. In theory not as 'good' as the seasonic though.

Which X-Finity? The 500 has been called very noisy by SilentPC:

Its worst aspect is the noise; almost any other power supply we've tested in the past year will beat the X-Finity for low noise.

Silent PC Review conclusion

I had theX-Finity 600 but just RMAed it because I thought it was fairly loud.

You could also look for a PSU that utilizes a single 120mm fan vs. using the default 80mm fans installed in most PSU's. Most come with a blue lead wire you can attach to a spare fan header on your motherboard in order to control the RPM's of the PSU fan.

Seasonics are top-notch.

I just witch they would release some modular versions with the same quality as the S12 line.

I can heartily recommend the PCP&C Silencer 470 ATX.

Having had it side by side with the Seasonic, so long as you control your case temperatures (keep it UNDER 45C inside the PSU, which ISN'T hard,) the Silencer 470 is quieter. Not by a LOT. May not be measurable. But it sounded quieter to me.

My OCZ 520 SLI is no louder than the 3 blade Delta I have on my XP-90. In addition it is rock solid!

enermax noistakers are very quiet also. i just got a 600w(reminds me i need to update my sig) and its virtually silent. it also has a cool feature which i wasn't aware of. when u turn off the pc, the fans in the psu keep running until it's under a certain temp. very cool.

The 600watt is obviously going to be loud. I have both the Seasonic 500w and the X-finity 500watt...no matter what Silent PC says, they have the same sound. I have one fan in my computer and I have stopped it just to see if I could tell a difference...and I can't.

The Seasonic, by the way, is the replacement one I got from seasonic.

Alot of people do not like the X-Finity because they seem to be very unstable. Actually a PSU reviewer at one of the other sites I read says that "The Ultra X-Finity rates somewhere between crap and poo"

I would say go with the Seasonic, also look at the Enermax Liberty, and Sunbeamtech NUUO. Given very high reviews and have great rails.

Umm link? Was this X-finity 1 or X-finity 2? A little short on details there.

And why would you recommend the Sunbeamtech if you think X-finitys are bad? Not that Sunbeamtech is bad but Ultras are built considerably better.

I'm gonna go with jonnyGURU on this one.

Good, cuz I just bought one for $29.99AR.

It's not obvious that the 600 is loud. There's is nothing in that review that says the 600 sounds like a leaf-blower but to me it does. :)

It probably wasn't a review. It was probably a post in a forum... and it probably wasn't an X-Finity either. Maybe an old X-Connect if it was anything Ultra.

Not the one in my review, the one with the dual 12V rails and the FlexForce cables? My cost is $50 with a back-end rebate. Speaking of "Umm link?"... I want to see a link. :D

I stand corrected.... It was a user "review" on another forum and it was an old X-Connect not the X-Finity. I spoke with the guy and he said that his post originally said the X-Finity but it was a typo, was meant to be the X-Connect.

Sorry for the misinformation

I have an x-finity and indeed they are very loud. Eventually I'll be getting a M12 when I can afford it :D

according to spcr

S12: 200W@25dbA
X-Finity: 200W@40dbA

did u look at the date of this thread.
lewlz

i got one of those 500w ultra PSUs for free after rebate from fry's. decent psu. and fairly quiet...

I have an OCZ Powerstream 520W SLI power supply. I love how I can fine-tune the voltage to be closer to their respective rails than some butterfingered employee, and it's damn stable too (at least in my limited semi-testing).

But one of the fans in the power supply is a really cheap sleeve bearing Globe fan that goes Rrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssssppppppppppppppppp when oriented as it would be in a power supply (blowing air from side to side) so I'm in the middle of a fan swap right now.
