Looking for a nice quiet cpu cooler. Im using a Thermaltake Silent Boost right now and its very good, but I need something for another computer and was wondering if there was something else that might be a little chepaer and quieter. Thanks.

Check out the Spire WhisperRock IV: www.spirecooler.com/fcc.asp?ProdID=105. I built a quiet XP2800+ system with it a few months back. I have horrible airflow in my case (I have my front intake fans unplugged at the moment) and I still get pretty good temps. I think you can find it for $15 or less as well.

from the title i was thinking the same.

Gollum0000 id suggets a zalman 7000 series running is silent mode.

my 1.4ghz t-bird has a swiffy mc462 as3'd with a panaflow middle speed fan.

with that heatsink u cna get a slow spinning fan and stil lget fairly good temps.

Sorry, usually when I refer to buying heatsinks im implying that its about the whole cpu cooler. Thanks for the replies. I really like the Zalman (but I think i might go with the 6000 instead)

For $34 shipped, I'd go for the CNPS-7000AlCu. I've used one in a customer's box, and I thought it was awesome. Very quiet, good performance, good price.

I've never seen a heatsink that would generate any noise. Fans are a different story, though.
