Quick Temperature Question

I have a Zalman 320 with two fans installed on it and a i5 4670k overclocked to 4.1GHz (but its adaptive so its running at 800mhz when at idle).

My temperatures, at idle, are roughly, because they go up down by about 3 degrees Celsius: 23,21,20,22 and at load: 31, 35, 28, 29.

After playing HL2 for 15 minutes the temps were: 35,40,35,34.

I am running Real Temp 3.70 to monitor my temperatures.

Is it normal for the 4 cores to be running at different temperatures both at idle and at load?

Also, I have a fan (intake) blowing from the right side onto the ram and CPU, I wonder if that's why the last 2 cores (closest to the fan) are several degrees lower than the first two cores. Does that make any sense?

Sure, that are completely normal, each core have diferent load even at idle where light loads are on single core, thats why the difference on temps on idle.. If you enter in bios and you enable the package C state and C6 states your idle temps would be more evenly.. Now with the load temps those are extremely low, in fact i highly doubt those are high load temps at most could be daily usage temps (browsing, office, etc) however they are good too, same law apply, different load across the cores will affect the temps.. You will never find a processor that run the same temp in each core, remember that each core its individual and have a individual DTS to report temps..

And never forget that your temps will be effected by your ambient room temp.

Yeah its normal for them to vary between cores by around 5C when doing the same amount of work.
When playing a game, the cores do not have equal loads on them, so the temps can vary a lot more.

Note that you stated your load temps then gave gaming temps that are higher, it should be the other way round.
The load temps are not realistic. What did you use to put them under load?
