Hello. I didn't see anything about this in the FAQ, so sorry if this has been asked before or anything. I've been doing my folding using the consoles until today. I have an e6700, so I was running two consoles to work both cores, and from what I read the SMP takes care of that, right? When running the SMP client, I only need to run one right? I've got 100% CPU usage, so I'm pretty sure it's working right, but figured I would double check with you all. Also, does the SMP offer any advantage over the console besides this? I thought I read somewhere that you get more PPD with the SMP client. Is this true? Thanks in advance for he help. Later.
 
Haha, yeah it definitely seems to be an improvement. fahmon was reporting my PPD with the console version as like ~450 ppd per core, and now it says it's up to 1536 ppd. Not sure how accurate that is, but not too shabby. I'm working on getting another machine going soon here as well. Just need a few parts to get it running. Nothing spectacular, but it'll have a P4 running at 2.6GHz (unless I OC it a tad), which should do some decent folding. I've also got an old P3 folding 24/7, but it'll be replaced by the new budget build, haha. The 900MHz P3 is doing it's best. At around 34 ppd, it's quite the powerhouse, haha. I might have to throw F@H on my parents 1.6GHz AMD as well. I'm just not sure if the processor in it will be safe running at 100% all the time, and I don't want to destroy their computer.

Your parents boxen should be fine. Running F@H won't harm it. If it dies at this point... it was not folding's fault.

Just run the console client as a service.

p.s. on the bright side, if it does die, you can build them a new quad core boxen. :D
 
Haha, more like get myself a quad core and hand my C2D to them :), haha. Nah, you're prob right though, it should be fine. Not to mention, I think if a P3 can handle it without dying, then it should be fine, haha.
