Hi all,

My old Viewsonic VX2025WM is busy kicking the bucket (it's DVI is going finally) and I've narrowed my replacements down to the U2311H and the HP ZR24w - both in my price range, and both looking like great displays - Flat panels HD seems to think the ZR24w has some minor banding and cannot go dim enough, along with slightly less than amazing black levels.

However, going for the ZR24w I see 1200 veritcal better, and 24" better as well...but neither is enough to make me jump on a monitor that isn't good enough to fit my needs (I realize that color perfect ISN'T required, but I do get picky...I hate TN panels for example. Hence why I'm looking at IPS panels.)

I'm mainly going to be doing browsing, some coding, watching some stuff like hulu, and gaming (ranging from RPGs to FPSes, no response time does matter, but seems neither of these two monitors will have issues playing an FPS?)

What are people's thoughts, is the ZR24w worth the extra money for the resolution and size? Or is the U2311H just a better monitor all around and an amazing bargain?

Thanks in advance!!

Why don't you check out the BenQ EW2420/VW2420? They use VA panels, the reason why I brought this up is because they tend to be cheaper than the lower end IPS panels. For example the Dell U2311H costs $300+, while the EW/VW series costs under $300. If you're not going to be doing gaming or need low ms, I suggest this series for you. Since you will do browsing and video watching the rich contrast (3000:1) will definitely be in your benefit.

The EW2420 comes with 2 HDMI, DVI, VGA ports, 4 USB ports, LED backlit, 3000:1 contrast.

VW2420 is split into VW2420 and the VW2420H. The series carrying the "H" represents HDMI. The series has a slightly different design as the EW2420 and has DVI, VGA ports as standard, LED backlit, and 3000:1 contrast ratio.
