I know this has probably been asked a million times, but I can't find my answer. I've read the FAQ but it didn't really answer my question that well. I'm a newb at overclocking, but I have to start from somewhere right?

Ok, say that I get a AMD 64 3000+ socket 939, and I overclock it to, lets say 2.2 GHz successfuly with good cooling, can I leave it at that speed for a long period of time. Lets say 1 year?

Thanks guys, and I'm having a hard time finding any guides on overclocking new Athlons, and links would be nice.

Thanks again!

Depends on how high the load is.
Are you going to be playing games for a year nonstop? :D
You should check if your comp can withstand the OC at full load. I heard of some program called PRIME 95 which runs your PC at full load. Then again, i'm with you as a noob :)

You can easily run your computer OCed for over a year. It can run OCed for a lifetime if need be. Just as long as you are stressing it too much like mentioned before. You should keep your temps well below 60c. 30's GREAT! 40's Pretty good, 50's Getting a little warm, 60's Are you sure you have an AMD or is it an Intel Prescott?

haha, good analogy...but i think prescott might be better :p

oh, and if ur lazy like me...Prime95: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

Oh alright, thanks for the tips!

I have two more question. Is it worth it to keep the 1:1 ratio for overclocking the FSB (or is it HTT?) and ram, or would it be a lot easier to just do something like 5:4? I hear that the 5:4 ratio doesn't give up a lot of performance like it did to past CPUs. Because of some embedded memory channel..yah..

How can I keep the temps in the 40's if it's overclocked? I'm looking around at other threads, and it seems like most people are in the 50's under load and not overclocked. I don't want to spend the money for watercooling, so what would be some a good HSF?

its called Integrated Memory Controller, and what that means in that its on the cpu die instead of using the northbridge...which, if i assume right, means that there's less distance to travel........

anyway, you would need to look at a third-party HSF...that's not my "thing"...it used to be, but i got my watercooling and i'm all into that now...i've heard the xp-120 is very nice, and so is the Zalman 7000Cu and is very quiet....

well, hope that helps
