Friend of mine handed me the receiver, had it for two years, one past its warrenty. He was playing some music, heard a pop noise and it died, any ideas as to what the issue is and how I may be able to fix it or whatnot (im not the richest person in the world, and I like the reciever!)

Onkyo HT-R500

Blown Capacitor?

The failure could be one of a number of things, and to be honest unless you've got a lot of experience doing tight solder jobs and repairing modern electronics, your chance of fixing it is essentially zero. Things aren't as easy to repair nowadays as they once were, now that you can fit a few billion transistors in a square inch.

thats understandable.
I have done alot of work on electronics before, I just didnt want to open the thing up if someone else said, "oh that receiver, good luck with that, once they break thats it" kind of thing.

I just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas tis all.

More info would be appreciated, will get the model # posted in a jiff.

I decided to rip open the unit and take a look around. I plugged power in and got the standby light up no problem. Hit the power, and nothing happens..... okay, so my power of obviousness points me to look at the p/s and the fuse. Sure enough, the fuse is black and crispy. Checked furthur down the line to make sure nothing else might have gotten a little frikisied and nothing of notice. So my first step is to replace the fuse in finding out if thats it or not.
Fuse is 125V 8 @ 51MS.

So replace the fuse, see if that works I guess.

I tried a new fuse, and it poped, so theres another short somewhere, will find it.l
