buying a prebuild one.. only thing i can affort atm
was looking at Qnap and acer but ended here :
http://www.synology.com/enu/products/DS411j/index.php
For the RAID 5 volume, I get 25MB/sec write and 70 MB/sec reads which I am very satisfied with.
I'm getting about 35mb/sec on write and 70mb/sec on read.
remember its synology entry lvl for 4 disk, so its their slowest. If the transfer rate isnt fast enough for your needs, save more the Synology DiskStation 4-Bay (Diskless) Network Attached Storage DS411+ (Black) should give you 100 MB/sec.in raid 5?
It'd be way cheaper to build a basic rig and populate it with disks than it would be to buy a dedicated NAS unit. On the other hand, with the NAS you'd get warranty and a proven interface. I think building your own would be worth considering, as you could easily make one for 50%-60% of the cost of that Synology posted by Abula.
