question (file encryption?)

i reinstalled windows on my hdd but forgot that i had a password on my old account. so when i start up windows and try to transfer my old documents etc over i cant getinto the folder becuase its protected. i know there is a way to access the folder, but i totally forgot. any help? thanks.

If it's encrypted and you don't have a backup of your (or recovery agent's) EFS certificate, you won't be able to recover the files.

If it's not, you probably just need to take ownership (property->security->advanced->owner)
