question: daisy-chaining adapters....

k, i have a sony desktop w/ a Nvidia Geforce Fx 5200 video card and two NEC MultiSync 1550V flat panel monitors. i want to run both at the same time off my 5200, but there is a problem. those monitors are vga, and while i have one running off the vga output of the 5200, the other output uses a DVI-D connector, and the dvi-d connectors won't do a conversion to vga.

my idea is to buy a dvi-d to dvi-i adapter and a dvi-i to vga adapter and use them (daisy-chained) to run the NEC flat pannel. will this work? if you know, pls let me know, i don't want to buy the adapters and then figure out that i'm just nuts, and you can't really do this.

Are you sure you can't just get a converter to do it? I'm not sure about nvidia products but all the ATI cards I've bought always came with a DVI to VGA converted. I think even some of the monitors I've bought came with them as well seeing as how I have a crapload of them around the house. I've even used them to hook up dual VGA monitors on my comp before. I'm assuming the DVI connectors are the same between ATI and Nvidia cards.

I'd suggest looking around for one of those or see if any friends have extra converters they aren't using. You probably could chain them like that but I'd imagine the image quality would be pretty bad when you got done.
 
I have been searching for 3 days, and i have not been able to find one, i did a bit of research and found an article claiming that there is no way to convert dvi-d to vga via an adapter. however, you can get dvi-d to dvi-i, and dvi-i to vga, which prompted the daisy-chain question. however, i feel like if it were possible to go from dvi-d to vga, there would be an adapter for it, which is why i am suspicious about the daisy-chain idea.
 
For the DVI-VGA adapter to work, the extra analog pins must be present in your original DVI connector. So, either plugging in the DVI-VGA adapter will work, or the pins simply aren't there and there's no solution to your problem.
