Well, as i said in topic, i was putting together a new rig for my mom and im kind of confused. Well, i dont know which wire is for the power button on the front of the case, and there are about 10 of those tiny wires that look like the ones ur supposed to use for power button. They are badly labeled, and Im almost at a loss lol. My moms system specs are barton 2600 w/ asus a7n8x, 512 ddr pc3200 ram, radeon 7200, 430 w psu, dynapower silver/blue case from newegg (search that in newegg u will see my case) and its got sb live 5.1 and a 80 gb hd. Ask me for anything else that can help me help u to help me and i will gladly oblige.

Can you see one that says, " Power Lead" ?

Then one that says , "Power switch" ?

Power switch being a 2- pin connector

Power Led being a 3-pin connector.

Thats the thing, i dont, and i find that extremely odd. I did have to open the front panel so i could fit the screws into the fans and i sealed the front again, do u think it could have possibly sealed in to the front panel by accident?

Ok, I see what you mean.

Are any wires feeding from the front to the bottom of your case?

From the side of your open case, you can still trace the bundle to the front panel, yes?

Well look, even if it's trapped in the front panel, it's an easy fix. Just take the front off and fed it through.

Don't worry. You'll be fine.

The wires are coming from a bundle to the front panel, ill just pop it off and see if its there, and if its not, then what happens?

Well what i'd do is just trace the wires up through the front panel. I forget all the colors but usually they are also color coded. I know Power is Red and another color and I think reset is purple. Don't quote me on the colors though sorry.

Quiksilver,

None of those 10 wires have any markings at all on them, not on the black plastic jumper part, not at ALL?

No tiny white lettering anywhere that you can see? Is that what you're dealing with?

Color coding, is iffy at best on different cases. They're rarely the same from case to case.

You have no marked wires?

just trace the wires from the front if you can

for the power and reset button (and maybe turbo if its old), it doesnt matter which way you plug the jumper-like things into the pins

however, for the power and HDD leds, they require to be plugged in one way... the wires should show how, look for the black or the white wire on the LED leads... thats ground... on the LED pins, look for which side is the ground and plug it in that way

Yep.

Your 2-pins are most important. Your HDD, Power switch, reset, are all going to be 2 pin. And that's what will fire those-up.

So experiment with those first using the "chart" that should be in your Mobo manual. Even without markings and a little experiment, you can solve that.

Your 3-pins as Wayne says, are just your leds so you can attack that after .

4-pin is the speaker.

leds arnt always 3 pins... some cases goof up and make it the wrong pins for the mobo so i usually end up having to cut and replace the pins myself, to make them fit

Well, i said they are badly labeled, meaning that a 4 headed one said speakers, then theres about 10 one headed ones that say ear L ear R and then theres 1 four headed one that says usb 1/2 and thats it. I dont see any other ones, definately nothing that has power.

OK,

the "one headed" ones marked L +R have to be paired. One is a ground wire.

Example of course, that two together make one standard 2-pin jumper.

So use your mobo manual, follow the chart, for HDD ETC

Your power switch, reset are indeed there. Just pair them

Ok, well i DID find the Power LED/switch etc. but they were stuck behind the front panel :( but now i got another question. It says Pwr LED on it but it doesnt say which side is plus and minus? Which is which?

aww come on someone tell me which is plus and minus?

You can't hurt anything, so plug it in. If you see the lead lit, you're good. If not, shut down then turn it around.

Are you using your mobo chart as a guide.

alright that's good.

Blk or white wires are usually ground. Minus.

Again as long as the PC is OFF while you do this, you won't hurt anything if you put them in wrong.

But if you don't get power or Led lites, you know you must turn them around.

Well i did that successfully, now one last question. What does this wire do? Where does it connect? Its coming out of the power supply. It came out blurry so i ran over it with paint really fast :)

HA! HA! HA! Ok QuiK,

That's a very mean thing to pull on older people, a "blurry puzzle"

Power supply hey? I'm gonna make a stab and say it's the 4-pin 12v connector for a P4 MOBO.

That's what that looks like to me as well. Also some AMD mobos now have those connectors.

Ok then, go look-up that board, check-it -out to be sure and then you're all set.

So, you've got all the wiring done: boots-up, HDD spins-up, everythings working, and all

is well with the world now?

Might go edit out that other post you made on the "same" subject.

So have fun and good luck :p

OMG big problem! Well i pressed the power button praying that it would turn on and it didnt! The lights flash on for a SECOND then its out again. Could it be that i have no floppy drive? or is something faulty?

thats to power the newer processors... basically for the newer P4s and also some AMDs look for a 4 pin hole somewhere on the baord that matches that... i dont know about your board so just look thru it thoroughly

you dont need a floppy drive to boot

i ran into this problem before but i forgot what happened... probably something shorting out... check your mobo... also check your psu
