i see from CPU-Z that my processor clock speed is at 1596 MHZ for my Q6600 because of the speedstep.

whats everyone's preference on speedstep? does it cool the CPU better? and how do u turn it off......

You can disable it in the BIOS

I love speedstep. Sorry i guess I will never be get supreme [H]ardness ;)

80% of my computer time is for work, so why spend the extra Watts when i dont need it.
 
i guess i dont understand how it works since i was playing COD4, minimized the game, and checked CPU-Z, and it still said my core was 1596.
 
nvm, i just did a search for speedstep, and there has apparently been 900928340239842 threads about it...someone really should make a sticky about it.

I use speedstep because it gives some power savings. I don't game frequently so speedstep works for me.
