Well I currently have had my 9800 pro for 1 year now and I am starting to feel the pain of Doom 3 (i like to run my games at max performance). Well my question is this: at what point will pci-x go mainsteam? I dont buy vid cards too often (the 9800 pro was my first card after 4 years) so I was wondering if pci-x would go mainsteam soon then i would wait for those but if it mite take a while i was thinking of not getting the current generation (i.e. 6800/x800) but waiting for the next line from each company. Input? Money is sort of an issue but not too big of one, i prefer to be as cost efficient as possible.

Well depends on when AMD and Intel decide to ship out their pci-e motherboards :) Hopefully in the next 3 months or so, we should see the nV 45 and more quantities of the x800xt pci-e's comin out!

So what do u suggest, I wait for PCI-X or just go ahead and grab an agp and keep it for about 2 years? ( thats what i do with my cards, i keep em for a while). BTW i bought my system exactly one year ago so its still fairly new

PCI-X isn't the same thing as PCI-E.

PCI-E will be used for both graphics and peripheral cards while PCI-X is only for peripherals.

i'd explain more but google is your friend.

if ya keep your system for then the 3 years wait for pci-e, if ya upgrade every 2 years go ahead with an agp (becarefully pci-x is different then pci-e)

Pci-e is pci express.

I meant pci-e, i just used pci-x cuz i didnt know there was actually a x. I meant e the whole time

cool, it all depends on your upgrade habits :). AGP will be around for 2 years

So then since i have a relatively new comp is it a good idea to just grab a 6800 gt or ultra or something like that when the NEXT gen comes out? the 6800 gt should be like 200 by then. Your thoughts?
