Question about Orthos vs Normal usage.

How often does a CPU get as hot as it does under orthos when only playing video games? I know the CPU is usually idling at 2.5 ghz until it needs to open up, then it shoots the the 4.2 I asked of it. After nearly an hour of idling orthos, it's stuck between 73-75, and a TDP if 147.3 watts.

From what I've read on intel's site, this will start throttling around 103 degrees C, and has a TjMax of 100.. So is this legit?
 
If you notice your screen shot your only using 1 core. Orthos wont use more than 2 cores last I knew. I have read that there were issues with some programs loading not 100% on i7's, not sure if prime 95 will stress it or not

Better run some test with all 4 cores or 8 threads at 100% load to get realistic temps
 
The CPU will basically never get as hot as it does while being stress-tested, although really CPU-intensive tasks like video encoding might come close. In any case, running your CPU at 75C is not at all harmful to it, so you shouldn't worry either way.
 
Thanks zero82z. That thing hammered on my poor CPU. 80c after the 5th run. It held up though. Safe to go?
