Question about Mac Folding speed

I'm just wondering, does anyone know how well folding would run on a 1.2ghz G4? Reason I ask is that soon I'll be getting a new iBook, and want to get it folding for the cause (esp. since in exchange, I'll be losing my 2.2ghz Athlon XP notebook).

Also, would anyone happen to have Apple Store coupons (or coupons for any online store that might be able to make it cheaper to get one...as it is, college is hurting me pretty nice for money, and I'd like to save whatever possible, as before too long I'd also like to invest in a cheap dualie folding box and a proposal to my girlfriend).

So yeah, anything you guys can chime in on either question is welcome. :D
 
The Mac WILL fold slower than any PC based system simply because the code is optimised for x86 based systems and some of the code for the macs are not as good. However, one of my borgs is a 1 ghz mac that runs almost 24/7 and that borg puts in about 2-3 wu per week. :)
 
I was going to suggest the online apple store but somebody beat me to it ;) but you can also check the special deals section and see if there are any deals there or also check your campus book store as they sometimes have GREAT deals (have seen deals that included the comp AND Apple Care for less than what I could sell the comp for even with extra discounts)..if they don't have any deals you are looking at call the online store and let them know you are a student and when they config it for you tell them you need them to do better and see if they can knock a little more off (they should be able to)

as for folding...I now have a G4 400, (x2) G4 dual 1.25 (got the second one up today) my ibook when plugged into AC and a sometimes G5 1.8 and yeah they do suck on the code for them...seeing if there is anyway to setup xgrid and borg all the comps in our group which would be around 25 dual 1.25s :eek:

 
heh, was about to point out the academic discount part of the online store, but I was beaten to it :D

Thats the only thing I know about, ofc I've only bought an iPod from them.
