question about hdd installation

if i have my hdd set to master via jumper, then does it matter which of the 2 ide plugs i plug it into?
 
It shouldn't but in my experience, it depends on the motherboard. Some older ones will get confused and give some type of reading. Most of the newer ones won't have problems with it.
If it's one drive, it shoudl be fine. If it's two, then make sure u set jumpers for both. Why just go cable select and setup as it?
 
well i have an asus a7n8xe deluxe and a maxtor 80gb. i set the jumper to master, and this is the only hdd i have. the cable/mobo manual doesn't say anything about which plug is for which hdd, so i'm guessing its ok.
 
If the drive is jumpered then it doesn't matter. Only time the position on the cable makes any difference is when the drives are set on cable select.
