Question about Dual LCD Setup

Alright, well I currently have one LCD but might have the ability to purchase the exact same monitor for a very good price. I have a BFG 6600gt in my current righ which has dual DVI ports. I was curious if for one I would have the proper ability to setup both monitors with this card? Also will it drain a large portion of system resources if I had both connected? Would I lose or gain FPS in any pc games such as HL2, Doom 3, UT2K4?

Just curious if I should go ahead.
 
I've only had dual CRT's connected before, but I assume it is roughly the same thing and there isnt a hit in performance when gaming becasue the games will only run on one of the monitors
 
So basically what it would add would be the ability to multitask by running different programs at once on different monitors?
 
Exactly. A good example would be running Adobe Photoshop CS on your left display and Mozilla Firefox on your right.
 
Anyone think it's worth it? I really don't do all that much multitasking. Usually either game or work on homework. I think it would be overkill....I would have a dual Samsung 712N setup if I went this route...
 
I never thought I would take advantage of a dual monitor setup until I had one. I was using 2 CRTs for the past year and about 3 weeks ago I bought 2 Samsung SyncMaster 710N LCDs and I love them. I do a lot of multitasking, web design and photo editing, but I use both monitors everyday. Even for things like having all my AIM windows on one display and web browsing on the other. I can't imagine going back to one monitor after having two. I really like the Samsung LCDs as well, 3 year warranty, no dead pixels on either of mine, and no ghosting at all in HL2 due to 12ms response.
 
Did you get an extended warranty or is that the standard warranty for Samsung monitors?

How much did you pay for your monitors?
 
The monitor comes standard with a 3 year parts/labor/backlight warranty. I paid about $375 total for two of them from Buy.com. That price is after two $20 rebates, two $30 discounts for opening two Buy.com Visa accounts, and a 10% off coupon. It looks like you can get them from Buy.com right now for $229.50 each and a $20 rebate is available for each one. I chose the free shipping option and they were both here in 2 days.
 
Not to thread jack, but somewhat related quesiton:

Has anyone tried doing a dual monitor setup where the second monitor is on a KVM switch? So you can switch it between a secondary display and a primary display for another computer? In theory there shouldn't be a problem, but I'm wonderif if anyone has done it and been pleased.
