ok i have decided to upgrade my heatsink/fan from the standard intel cooler to a zalman unit and i was thinking about useing arctic silver but i have a question i couldnt find the answer to on the arctic silver site. i was told that arctic silver once installed cannot be removed is this true also if you can remove it do you need any special tols as i will upgrade to wc soon.

Thanks

It can be removed for the most part I guess if your talking looking under a microscope maybe there still some. But if you use something lint free and 99% icypropal achol it should come clean easly.

I bet if you lapped your IHS it would take the arctic silver off :)

Not that it's necessarily the best way..

Arctic Silver can be removed. It is only a thermal compound.

The Arctic Silver Thermal Epoxy is different. It consists of 2 components, Epoxy ( GLUE ) and Arctic Silver.

A+B = Thermal Epoxy which is what some use to mount heatsinks to memory chips which is somewhat permenant, but provides thermal conductivity in the process.
