Hi,
I currently have a P3 733 with some QDI tech mobo.
I ordered a geforce 3 ti 200 hopeing it will give me the boost
i need to have good fps in games such as cs and q3.
I'm concerned because i think my mobo will slow down the vid card. Heres a link to the mobo's specs: http://www.qdigrp.com/qdisite/eng/products/advance9.htm
Should i be ok with this mobo or should i get a mobo that supports agp 4x? If so, what cheap and effective mobo should i go with?

I'm not looking to upgrade memory to ddr, cpu, and other stuff. I'll be buying a new comp by next year and don't want to spend much on this one.

IMO, try the new card in your current mobo first. I would not advise spending money on a new mobo if you are waiting until next year to build a new computer. If the framerates are bad, turn down the resolution. If they still are bad, upgrade everything now or put up with the framerates. Again, this is solely my opinion.

I dont think that motherboard will slow down the video card. The processor might though.

a 1.4 ghz p3 would still be a decent processor. Probably equivalent to a 1.8 ghz p4. If my memory serves me right.

(more with overclocking, although i dont think the 1.4 left much headroom)

The one thing im worring about is the 512mb/sec transfer rate for graphics card. Isn't tranfer rates on a gf3 greater then 1gb/sec?
I just want to atleast expeirience most of the gf3's capability, even if it means speanding another 25$, not more though :D

Well i think the gf3 was made when 2x was still common place. So its not going to be starving or anything. You may get a 15% performance boost going to agp 4x (if even, i dont remember benchmarks comparing 2x to 4x)

The increase wasnt much though. It was still worth it however.

Don't worry about the AGP bus speed, 2x is plenty fast enough.

I have a regular GF3 and it's fine for Q3 and CS so don't worry. The only real problem is smoke nades in CS, they tend to lag me out, especially if 3+ are thrown at once.

I had this card with a 1.2 ghz Athlon a while back and those two games were fine, so you should be ok.

lol, i dont know why, but smoke never lagged my slow ass comp. I maybe got a small fps drop but thats it, very weird. I think i changed max puffs or something and it helped.

btw thx for the replies
