The folks at VR-Zone have posted what they are claiming is quad-core Phenom clock speeds, models and release dates. Only time will tell if the information is accurate but, in the mean time, it is always fun to speculate.

Phenom FX-82 will be clocked at 2.6GHz or higher while the faster FX-8x model could hit 3GHz. FX-82 DVT samples will be available in Q4 while production will kick off in Q1 2008 while FX-8x DVT sample and production is slated for Q2 2008. Phenom 9600 and 9500 clocked at 2.4GHz and 2.2GHz respectively will be the first quad-core Phenom processors to hit the market in Nov. Phenom 9700 clocked at 2.6GHz will come along slightly later in Dec. A faster iteration of the quad-core Phenom will come along in Q2 2008 while DVT samples will be available in Q1. Most likely, it will be called Phenom 9800 and clocked at 2.8GHz.

Oh, I hope it's accurate. :) I just hope they're reasonably priced... :(

Unless I'm reading too much into it, they're overinflating the PR rating though...
I'm using the 9600 as a baseline. (X2 4800+ @ 2.4GHz, doubled, becomes X4 9600+ @ 2.4GHz) Double the cores, double the performance- or so they would have us believe.

With Christmas on the horizon, who wants the honor of buying me the 3ghz quadcore Phenom? :D

The model numbers have not been connected to P4 mhz since the X2's first came out. They're just model numbers now.

I wasn't comparing it to a P4, I was comparing it to the models that are out currently. I'm expecting that in "all-around performance", K10 isn't far superior to K8 in clock-for-clock comparisons. How, then, do they justify doubling the PR rating by doubling the cores? Going from single-core 2GHz/512KB to dual-core 2Ghz/512KB justified a 3200+ to a 3800+, why have they changed their stance?

Until we have users here on [H] posting up numbers of good benchmarks, I wouldn't say anything about clock performance.

Socket AM2? If AMD kept s939 around, how much of better a position would AMD be in right now? I purposely avoided AM2 for all the headache and expense of rebuilding when a drop-in replacement does just as well.

DD2 will be so much faster than DDR, they crowed. It isn't outside of benchmarks. I run DDR at CAS2 @ 220MHz and it runs like a champ. DDR3's rapid availability and performance puts any claim of DDR2's superiority to bed.

That AMD requires me to change mobos to upgrade means I go with the best price/performance/stability, which currently is Core2Duo and the Phenom will not change that.

AMD by forcing me to change mobos, you lose me as a customer. Which is your fault, not mine.

+1

I myself will wait and see some real benches, and decide form there.
If its not too crazy of prices, I hope to stick with AMD. Not that i am anti intel, I just want to see the comparisons. The next rig I build will be the last one for a while:D

AM2?

I could of sworn they were changing socket types. This is great for me however, simply a drop-in upgrade!

Brother will be building a new rig around christmas time and we are awaiting some performance numbers for these processors. Will it be Intel or AMD in his new system? :D

AM2+, technically. But AM2+ chips will work in AM2 sockets, as long as the motherboard vendors include appropriate BIOS support. You'll lose HyperTransport v3.0 and split power planes, but those won't incur much performance penalty.

funny how you are judging a product before it is even out. BTW, like Intel doesn't make you purchase new motherboards (chipset) to support a CPU

The Model Numbers are NOT PR numbers, and have not been for some time. The AM2+ chips will work in AM2 boards, just not at full functionality (the HyperTransport 1 will not run at HyperTransport 3 speeds). We will probably not see a 3Ghz chip until 1Q 2008 (although, the FX chips should be able to clock up to that). Any questions? :D
