The dual 6600gt on the gigabyte 3d-1 need a full 16x pcie to run.

Therefore, 2 questions:
(1) Why do they need an SLI mobo to work

(2) If you got one of thos tyan workstation boards which have dual 16x pcie, as they have two nforce 4 chipsets, could you not get quad 6600gt, which would be faster than dual 6800 ultra?????????

thanks

Even though there are 2 GPU's on one board, they still use what would have been the SLI connector to connect them both. That is the reason why you still need the SLI mobo to work. Which leads us to your next point. You can not make a quad 6600GT because there is no physical SLI connector on the card, its already been used to connect the two GPUS on the board.

it would be cool to say "i have dual SLI 6600gts" or "i have quad 6600GTs" to a friend and when they say "BULLSHIT!" you show em and there like

even tho it wouldt perform well :p

LMAO hell yea it would be cool to say i have 4 gpus in my rig:eek:
...funny

I guess I could look into it myself, but I'd rather just ask...why are people buying this over a single 6800 GT or Ultra?

they're not, I think most people are sticking with a single GPU for now

according to maximum pc magazine that vid card wont run on another board anyways. As we all know, someone somehow will find a way its just a matter of when. But I think the toughest part is if it ever comes to running 2, where will you get one of these cards(another one)? I doubt they sell one separate from their bundle.
