q9550 cooling question

I have a antec 300 case q9550 to 3.77 ghz on GA-EP45-UD3P w/a Xigmatech S1283 and after running prime 95, I noticed that core 1 & 2 run about 6 C hotter than 3 & 4. Anything I should be concerned with? Oh and temps dont go above ~ 62 C.
 
That's normal. Each die has specific thermals so two cores will be warmer than the other two. I wouldn't feel comfortable though unless load temps were no higher than low-to-mid 50's though just to make sure your CPU has a longer life.
 
Well it doesn't hit 60 until about 6-7 hrs of running prime95, so as far as RL usage, I doubt it will ever be pushed that hard.
 
I don't know about Yorkfields, but many who push their Q6600's don't usually have a problem as long as load temps don't exceed mid to high 60's. You should be fine.
 
Those temps are more than fine, I wouldn't worry about it. Keeping it under 50c is FAR from necessary. My chip is over 50c at all times while playing a game or doing anything remotely intensive.

out of curiosity, I see you're running at 3.94 what are your settings?
 
under 70c is going to be fine. I have oc'ed many chips and have never had a failure.
 
Under 100C is fine for a Q9550. I personally like to keep things below 80C for long-term operation, but technically it is safe to run these CPUs up to their Tjmax without risking failure or damage.

While that is true, technically running something like 80c all the time, WOULD decrease the life of the CPU. While that doesn't bother me either (I never keep a chip long enough) it is worth noting.

It might decrease the life of the CPU. Say from 10 years to 7 years. Certainly not going to die before it's usefullness runs out.

I'm like a little kid excited about Christmas with a decent overclock right now... how's this going to affect the lifespan of the CPU? Oh and why is RealTemp reading 7.5x while everything else is reading the full 8.5?

Lower the PLL down to 1.6v or less. 1.5 should be fine

You prob have to raise the Cpu ref a notch or 2 and may need more MCH core and lower MCH ref
