So I'm running a Yorkfield Q9450 with a Coolermaster V8, on a 750i. I tried working my way up to 3.6GHz, but every time I ran IBT, it froze 2 minutes in. I was working around 1.3-1.4v, since I was told I shouldn't exceed 1.42v. I tried 3.5 with similar voltages, no luck. I then went down to 3.0 at around 1.2-.1.3 and ran Prime95 blend for at least 3 hours and it was fine. I then played some TF2, LoL, RO2 just fine. I started playing the BF3 last night, it was fine, but then froze later that night when playing LoL. And now it froze twice while playing BF3 and again when watching a video today. During the stress testing at 3.6, my temps were around 51, 40, 47, 47, so I'm not overheating. I'm wondering if my settings are wrong, or maybe my PSU is to blame. I have a OCZ 700W GameXStream and am running SLI GTX 460s at stock clocks. Also, I'm running OCZ 4GB, since it's been discontinued, I believe I found the right timings. 5-5-5-15. CPU-Z is saying my RAM is running at 6-6-6-18. DRAM Freq - 400MHz.

Also, when I was in my BIOS tweaking the voltage, I noticed an option 'CPU FSB' was set to Auto, but was running at 1.30v and was red. Could that be a reason?

It is not good practice to do over 1.45V (unless extreme overclocking with liquid nitrogen and stuff) on 45nm CPUs. You may have to set it higher in BIOS than 1.45V and then monitor the voltage from within Windows -- the value you set in BIOS is likely to be actually less in reality. But I believe CPU Reference has some control on that.

I would recommend reading the thread I linked you to (II) and its original thread too (I). You can find the link to the original at http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/573620-overclocking-questions.html . I know it's a lot of information, but if you're really focused and sincere, you should be able to follow what I had been doing through time. It has been a wonderful learning experience, and thanks to Acoma_Andy I have learned tremendously. I'm still not really good and knowledgeable at this stuff, and I still haven't finished overclocking my Q9450 -- just haven't had any time since my last post to that thread to do anything. :(

The two threads should also give you some ideas as to what are safe ranges of voltages for different settings (in case you worry/worried like I about frying my CPU instantly because I set a voltage too high or something).

Thank you very much! I have no plans tonight and can take my time working on my CPU. I'll give those threads a read through after dinner. So you think my issue is a voltage/settings issue? Opposed to a PSU related problem?
