Q6600 Wall Was hit.

Ah well now it all makes sense. :p

Any sugestions on motherboards?

What's the highest clock for an Q6600 and what is the norm? I just wana compare it to the OP's one.

I have seen 3.8 on a thermalright ultra 120 extreme on some reviews. Is that high?

check the intel forum, there's a Core2 oc data base there.

I'm quite unsurprised you are having trouble clocking your quad on a 965P motherboard :)

I wasn't surprised at all. I was pissed off.

Anyways, I ordered the Abit board Ive been posting..

Why would you be surprised? 965 is a good OC chipset and it supports quad core. I'm not having any issues...

blueagle, i have the same problem.. i have the same ram and cpu with a dfi p965 mobo. its been a voltage problem for me and a heat problem.. the ram will get really hot once its beyond 330x9 ive had to attach my ocz xtc to cool them down

these are really picky ram imo.. and yes you have to manually set the timmings for some reason..

i also have this set of ram as wellhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098

and using just those i can get the timmings down to the 4-4-4-12 and hit 397x9 but i havent been able to go further on those.

i've done my homework so im going to try oc'ing one last time and try for 400x9 on the black g.skill's

I've had the Abit IP-35 Pro for a few months now and it's been great to me so far. I am running a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme with a Scythe F fan on a Q6600. It's running at 3.510 GHz, 390x9, 1:1 with no issues. Idle temps are anywhere from 34 to 40 degrees C. Load temps are just under 60 C. I'm sure I could push it a bit more, but I haven't tried. I guess I'm just unsure as to what the temperature limit is recommended.

I promise this will be my last post in this thread. :p :D
Last night I ordered MX-2 thermal Paste and the Abit IX38 QUad GT motherboard I have been posting.
When they come I will lap both my heatsink base and processor.

I just started with an ASUS P5NE-SLi board and a Q6600, and I seem to be having some issues getting to 3.0 as well. This same board put my E6400 at 3.4Ghz on air with no sweat.

I'm at 2.875 now and at only mid 40s in temp, per Core temp, so I don't think it's a temp issue.
