has anyone undervolted their q6600? i have mine running stable at 1.08v in bios at 2400... ram is at 1200mhz

the funny thing i noticed, is that the temps are not lowering much more than the stock voltage and temps. idle ranges from 29c to 35c on different cores.

heatsink is a arctic freezer 7 pro.

i searched and didnt find much.

Your limiting factor here is most likely the heat dissapation. It may not build up as much heat, but the heat is also being dissapated more slowly because the rate of heat exchange is proportional to the delta in temperatures. What are you ambient temps? Why not just see how high you can go on stock volts?

room temp is about 70-73 degrees farenheit. i can get to about 3ghz on stock volts, then my PSU becomes the limiting factor... its only a shitty antec TP trio with 550w. cant do any higher than like 1.35v or it just wont boot, no matter what the speed.

i figured i could at least drop some temp degrees from undervolting, but i guess not. maybe ill just throw it back to 3ghz and be done with it.

That's not killing your OC... You need to try other voltages too, its not all vcore, the north bridge often needs more etc.

Though, my Q6600 can do 3GHz on 1.2v so maybe its your motherboard or you just got a blah chip.

I run a q6600 with "only" a corsair 520hx. On stock voltage i have had it to 3.15ghz. it will run 24/7 at 3.6ghz @1.4v and can complete 3dmark06 at 4ghz with 1.55v. Right now i have it set to 1.15v at stock speed because i havent really had anything that needs more than that to play.

northbridge voltage is cranked up... believe me, this isnt my first trip around the block. im not as hardcore as some of you guys, i mean i dont need 4.2ghz for a media center pc, but it would be nice to find the limit of this chip. i know the psu is being pushed, its quite low on the 12v rail, almost under 12. its at like 12.01, measured with a multimeter. its cool though, i was just hoping to maybe get some cooler temps out of it, but i dont mind. a stock q6600 would be more than enough for encoding dvd's and watching/downloading music.

what type of cooling and temps are you seeing? i am afraid to push the voltage much higher, prime makes the temps see 60+ at 1.375 volts.

The temp is okay up to about 70-75c max. You can push harder but you might want to look into better cooling.
