Just like the title says, my core temps are all different from each other. I'm trying to determine if I need to reapply thermal paste. What is the acceptable range for this situation. Currently they stay within no more than 5c of each other at idle and load. With one of them consistantly lower than the others by about 3-4c at all times.

thanks in advance!

Perfectly acceptable. I've heard of many Q6600's, Q9450's etc with core temp differences of around 10C.

Hi,

My Q6600 will run loose at idle at a 5 to 6° spread In the middle with some CPU usage a bit more looser at a 7° spread. At 100% it will run tight. Each set of cores run identical to each other. For example, one set of cores will run at 50° and the other set of cores would run at 48°. IMHO, the numbers at load temp are the ones that really count. I know I have had my temps right to around 66° C with a 3 degree spread. Even at lower clocks and temps, my load spread was always pretty tight. The only way to cut that down would be a CPU lapping and more lapping of the HSF.

Good Luck.

Intel quads have two separate 2-core dies, so it's normal for one pair of cores to run at a different temperature. What you're probably seeing is two cores running at temperatures very close to each other, and the other two cores running a few degrees hotter or cooler than the first pair but also very close to each other. This situation is perfectly normal and there's no need to reapply thermal paste.
