Im running Prime 95 righ tnow to test out my system and using ITE's SmartGuardian to monitor my temps. My cpu temperature is fine but the program is listing my PWM IC temperature in red as 61C. First off what is the PWM IC and is 61c too hot, and if not what is?

im pretty sure taht is the motherboard temperature
i checked everest also and it said the southbridge temp was the same as the PWM IC temp so im just gunna assume its the same

that is a bit high and although they are rated to go very high without damage, you will still loose stability before you damage it. 60C and up is hitting pretty high. The PWMIC is located at the top right of your mobo next to the memory slots. It is the larger black rectangle chip there. Aim a fan at it, thats the best way to keep it down. I dropped 14C by just aiming a good fan over it.

Is the PWM IC affected by the CPU voltage? BTW, did I mention that those temperature are under 100% load? Im sure the temperatures would be much better under calmer circumstances. Would it be safe to leave my computer on overnight with those temperatures?

PWMIC is the pulse-width modulation integrated circuit. These mosfets are under the 3 heatsinks that are between the cpu and ide. They regulate voltage and do increase with temps as the cpu voltage is raised. 60C is fine for overnight- you won't damage anything, but it can limit your OC. To get better temps just aim a fan over the PWM area and you should see a huge drop in temps. :D

My case is the Thermaltake Tsunami-it has 1 120mm intake in the front, 1 80mm side intake, 1 120mm outake in the back and then my PSU fan. None of them really come close to the area of the PWM IC. Maybe the temps are soo bad because all of the leftover wires from my PSU are kind of tangled up and sitting right over that...But all of my fans are in fixed positions, how do you "point" a fan?

I bought a small 60mm fan and ziptied it over the PWM area (little heatsinks) Temps dropped like 15C. The only way to "point" a fan is to buy one.

Are you running a Dual core opteron/X2? The PWMIC is the row of sinks to the right of the cpu socket. The sink next to the 5volt memory jumper is the not apart of the PWMIC, but it can affect the temps. But put a slow 120mm fan over should drop temps quite a bit. Also with DC's voltages can icrease them quite a bit. You just need to test and find your own safe spot.

hey funkyjunk i had pretty bad pwmic temps as well but when i put a 80mm fan on my ram (look for a how to in the forums) with like coathangers the mobo temps went down to like 35C (with idle cpu at 43C)
