I found this a few days ago http://www.overclockers.com/tips1230/ and decided to pickup a few parts to play with and see if I could eventually use it as originally described or make some changes. The pictures below are simply unglued ideas I would like some feedback on.
First here is what was originally suggested over at Overclockers. Is the dead space on the capped end a problem from a circulation standpoint?
This version adds a second elbow (increasing total reservoir volume) and would seem to force the water to circulate more from end-to-end. Would it be helpful bothering to do this in the first place? Does the total volume of water held in the reservoir make a difference to a rigs total capacity to remove heat or have an impact on efficiency? Also does spreading out the in and out barbs help the flow at all? I am not sure if that dead spot in the first picture would mean anything.
My last variation here adds a third barb in the middle. Would it make sense to make this either a primary or even a secondary fill port to the system?
I am trying to slowly study all of the components (pump, radiator, reservoir, etc) and figure out how to make a new system later this summer. Speaking of the pump it seems many of the smaller GPH pumps have 3/8 fittings by default. Does more GPH necessarily mean a better cooling system or does it come down to how efficiently you match up everything else? I like the idea of the smaller pumps with 3/8 fittings plus I already have a radiator with 3/8 barbs already attached (heater core).
