Putting PC to Sleep

I never used to put my PC to sleep but would normally run it 24/7. However in the past year I started putting my PC to sleep whenever I was not using it. Does this cause more stress to PC parts, especially overclocked CPU like mine & even the SSD and hard drive?
 
The nitty-gritty answer...Yes. Components are meant to be kept on. The loss of power and then the surge of power when turning on is stressful on components.

The real world answer? It really wont matter throughout the life cycle of the component.

On the topic of leaving things on... i would say the only thing to worry about is a mechanical hard drive that is being accessed a lot (be it, a server or something). Even then, the mean time before failure is hundreds of thousands of hours of use.

Sleep it all you want!

Is there a better mode to put the PC in other than sleep without having to shut down? Does sleep really save a lot of energy vs running 24/7? Thanks for the response!
 
Hibernate. Same as shutting down, but CPU state and RAM contents are saved to disk before shutting down. When it boots back up, the CPU and RAM are restored to their previous state. Power usage is less than 5-10w depending on how much current is being drawn on the 5VSB rail.

Sleep modes will still consume several tens of watts because the memory has to be maintained, and enough circuitry to monitor for wakeup events stays powered up.
 
Is hibernate safer for PC parts? Thats my main concern. And how much energy is really saved by hubernate vs 24/7 on a monthly basis?
 
Well it depends. What kind of components are you using? IIRC it's not a lot! Like around $70 a year?
 
I have a gigabyte UD p55A UD 3 with intel 1156 chipset i5 750 quad core @3.8 with 4gig memory GSkill stock timings, EVGA 465GTX, samsung 830 128gig drive plus 2 80 gig 7200 sata drives backup, XFX 650 PSU, audigy 2
